What Not To Buy: 2 Disappointing Lip products from Lise Watier

Its totally understandable that cosmetic companies cannot come up with hits all the time. But the problem is - nobody minds a dud when you pay small bucks but when your wallet is hit to buy a lipstick, you expect your money's worth in gold. At least I do!

That is where these 2 products from Lise Watier fail for me.
If they were like $5 , I wouldn't mind that they suck. But they weren't. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was definitely not so sweet on pocket.

In 2 words, the reason why these 2 items suck is - POOR PIGMENTATION.
If I buy a lip product, I expect it to have some depth of pigmentation, or some other redeeming quality. This one has no positive attributes except for pretty packaging.

This has kinda put me off the brand. Have you used any Lise Watier products? If so what are your experiences?

That's all from me- Cheerio!

All that Glitters aint Gold - so true! Look at that pretty floral packaging.
Tender Pink is the shade name for the lip crayon.

Stunning design on the gloss!

A vanity piece - no doubt!

This gloss has everything except - color!

Power gloss? Really???? Swatching against white paper was the only way to see the shade!

If only they paid as much attention to actual product as for packaging!

Of course - low pigmentation, too much creaminess = breaking off while you struggle to get some depth

Tender Pink - after so much swiping and layering...whew!!!

New In Town: NYC SMOOCH PROOF LIQUID LIP STAINS in Unforgettable Fuchsia and On Everyone's Lips

I've decided to keep my reviews short and sweet.
Cos after all who has the time to read all the stories????

It also makes my life as a blogger easier :)

So here we go.

My review on this new product from NYC is.....

........
............
................

Okay, here we go...

SKIP THIS ONE.

Dear NYC - Love you for being cruelty free and many other awesome products, but this one is nah..

Unforgettable Fuchsia on Left, On Everyone's Lips on Right

Unforgettable Fuchsia on Left, On Everyone's Lips on Right

Unforgettable Fuchsia on Left, On Everyone's Lips on Right

My bare pigmented dull weirdly shaped lips

On Everyone's Lips on my weirdly shaped lips

Explanation:

In the swatch pic above  - you can see the gel like consistency of the lip stain. On lips, this translates to a thin sheer-medium weirdly tinted shade.  I'd expected the nudeish On Everyone's Lips to be a more peachy brownish mauve-ish shade, but it came across as a straight up pinkish mauve shade on my lips. To get the color in the pic above, I applied 3-4 coats.

It applies patchy, gives a slightly unpleasant tingling sensation and doesn't really last that long.

Of the 2, I'd recommend Fuchsia which is much more pigmented and has less of a patchy effect.

Buy this if you like:
- lightweight comfortable lip products

 I'd recommend:
- buying Revlon's new moisture stay lip stains over this, though a bit more pricier.

Unsung beauties... GOSH Intense Lip Colour in 303

What makes a lip gloss extra ordinary?

For me its having a luxurious glossy shiny feel on lips with lotsa pigmentation..enough to wear it without a lipstick underneath yet comfortable, hydrating and kinda long wearing on lips...

And this gloss from Gosh - they call it lip colour - is an extra ordinary one..

I got this on sale, so I didn't actually note the price. I think it was around $15 CAD originally. You can buy Gosh products in Shoppers Drug mart stores.

303 - is a beautiful lilac-ish pink shade. Not a mauve, though on heavy application it can end up looking so, if you have very pigmented lips. Really beautiful, the kind of  lip color that looks bland in tube, but gives a very chic sophisticated look on lips. I really like how this color looks on my lips - its not too pale, its the only shade of lilac that I've been able to carry off so far. Lilac is a notoriously only-for-cool-toned-fair-skinned ladies only shade. Not to say that darker skin cant wear it, but it comes off as a neon pastel shade on darker skin tones usually and neon or pastel shades are not the cup of tea for most people!

Not a fan of gimmicks, so the lights and the mirror on side aint that big deal for me.
Its coming off more purplish in the pics than it actually is!
As you can see, the color is rich and creamy  and looks beautiful. Its full pigmentation in a single swipe. I wouldn't recommend layering on, unless you've really dry lips. There is no serious scent or taste to the product. Once applied, it sets to a glossy finish and lasts for an average of 2-3 hours which is pretty neat for a gloss.

Overall: I'd really love to try more shades from this line - I like the quality, the feel of these lippies. I usually use them for important official functions, which tells you how much I regard the effect of this lip color.  If you're a gloss lover, this is definitely something you can try.

Fall Colors: NYX Butter Gloss in Devil's Food Cake

I've already reviewed these awesome affordable range of lip glosses here - LINK , so I am not repeating myself again.

Devil's Food Cake is described as a "Deep Plum" and I agree. This is a dark berry shade that leans more towards red than purple.
Which makes this a great comfortable lip color for Fall :)

Don't expect a very pigmented effect from these glosses - if you're looking for dark vampy lips for fall, I would suggest layering this over a darker lipstick.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Pink Pursuit

This is more of a swatch and show -color post; not really a review cos I don't think Revlon's SL line needs any more review!

I don't  love this gloss but I think its a nice affordable non-sticky option for a day wear.

Revlon's SL line has been around for ever and I think this may be one of those products that are so easily available everywhere.

So if I could suggest a dusty pink shade of a lip gloss that suits all skin tones, is fairly non-sticky and can easily be paired with most lipstick shades for a voluminous lip effect, this would be one I guess.

Keep in mind that this is semi-sheer so, don't expect much coverage if you have pigmented lips. I like pairing it with a nude pink lip color and apply this on top.

5 Lip Glosses I am lovin this Summer - NYX, Soap and Glory and Tanya Burr!

I am all for bright bold juicy colors this Summer.. colors that screams  'Joie de Vivre'.
These are some of the lip colors I have been enjoying before Fall sets in with shades of Wine and Berry [not that I mind] :)

From Top Left - NYX Butter Gloss in Cherry Pie, NYX Glam Gloss Aqua Luxe Glosses in Paint the Town and The Last Party, Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss in Yummy Plum and Tanya Burr lip gloss in Exotic Island
You can find reviews of these glosses here:
NYX Glam Aqua Luxe Gloss - [Mini Reviews below]

From L to R - NYX Aqua Luxe in The Last Party, SG Yummy Plum, NYX Aqua Luxe in Paint the Town, Tanya Burr and NYX Cherry Pie

NYX Glam Aqua Luxe Lip Gloss are not your office lippies- they are purely fun, party glosses.
I wouldn't advise wearing these lip colors alone or even full on lips as the shimmer can be a bit over powering, especially with The Last Party.

How I use - I dab it on the center of my bottom lips, not reaching the lip lines, but staying just a bit inside, to add a glossy shiny look.

They are very pretty but is a bit difficult to remove cos of all the shimmer, so I would always suggest keeping a wet wipe handy.

New in Town: Bonne Bell Lip Lacquer in Daiquiri [a.k.a. What Not To Buy for $6 ]

It feels like all I am doing nowadays are "What Not To Buy" posts.. :( Good for you guys cos you can steer clear of the stuff but pretty bad for mah purse.. Ah well..here is another one to the collection.

For a company that started in 1927 and has seen pretty much everything on the evolution of makeup, Bonne Bell doesn't seem to have really got the game in hand yet. The 2 products I have tried [click for review] so far, has been super duds. And here is yet another one to the gang. I have a new lipstick to try and some how I don't have much hope for that one!

You can get the product info here; it says it retails for $3.95 but I got it for $6 from my local Real Canadian.

My Experience:

The Good...

Daiquiri is a pretty cool toned coral pink shade with golden shimmers. Sounds pretty right? It is, really. The color is a great summer shade and when I can get over my cribs about this product, it looks good on my lips.

I also like the cute and handy packaging.
The Bad...

Abra ca dabra...
Zimboooooombaaaaaa....
Make me a gloss Sticky Sticky Sticky,
Make me a gloss Goopy Goopy Goopy,
Make me a gloss Smelly Smelly Smelly,
Make me a gloss Weirdly Sweet, Weirdly Sweet Weirdly Sweet..

Lo! My wish is fulfilled!

The Ugly...

Look at that wand.. just look at it... and tell me, how anyone can use this!
Reminds me of some bug with lot of legs.. yeeeeeesh.....

I feel like a kid trying to draw pictures with a useless brush that comes with a tiny cheap paint box!

Overall: If you like the color and the glossy look and has some sentiments towards Bonne Bell, go for it. Otherwise, I see no reason to buy this.

Sorry for the poor image quality of pics in this post- I had to take this quickly as my friend's kid liked the tube and wanted it, so I was trying to take pics before she grabbed it.

Disclaimer: This review is only intended for this particular shade of this product. Also I have no way of knowing if I picked a rotten one out of other good stuff, I can only review what I have.

NYX Butter Glosses in Tiramisu and Cherry Pie

After using these glosses, I wondered - what exactly makes them sooooo irresistible?
Is the pretty packaging?
Is it the beautiful gliding formula of the gloss?
Is it the range of 22 non-shimmery lip shades with a great mix of pastel and bright colors?
Is it the non-sticky creamy formula?
And I think I hit on the answer when I say - its all in the name!

I mean, can you resist a lip gloss, so prettily packaged with the name "Butter Gloss"?
(Lets keep aside the fact that trying to glide a chunk of butter on the lips feels pretty yucky and not fun. )
Just the name is enough to conjure up an image right from the pages of a glossy magazine.... Awesome marketing, NYX! Kudos!

You can read what NYX has to say about these glosses here
Price: $5 USD, they have lots of pretty shades too!

My Experience:

Let me start with what I don't like about these 1st, cos thats a short list!
  1. NYX don't ship to Canada and Rest of the world, so we miss out on all the good stuff and sales. I don't consider their "partnership" with MyUS as a shipping option - thats too expensive to buy these pocket friendly products!
  2. As much as I love the sturdy packaging, I wish it was partly clear so I could see the product inside :(
  3.  Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... thats it? Really?

 Now for the good stuff:
  1. Pretty cool packaging - its fun to line them up in the drawer! :)
  2. Lots of pretty shades to choose from
  3. Non-sticky application with a beautiful glossy finish
  4. Average staying power of 2-3 hours but provides longer lasting hydration - no need for lip balms with these babes
  5. One of the most comfortable-on-lips formula, especially from drugstore

Tiramisu is a pretty dull shade for my skin tone, but could be a nice MLBB shade for paler cool toned skins.
Its a cool toned nude 'Dusty-Rose'-ish pink-ish brown.

Cherry Pie is a beautiful Orangey Red, which makes it a great day wear for Summer.

Overall: Well, what is not to love? This is probably one of the best products from NYX. If you don't have them yet, try them soon, cos you're really missing out!
